VILNIUS – European Capital of Culture 2009

In 2005 the Education, Youth and Culture Council of the European Union nominated Vilnius as a European Capital of Culture for 2009. This decision was influenced by the fact that in 2009 Lithuania will celebrate one thousand years since the first time it was mentioned in written historical sources. Lithuania will celebrate its Millennium and Vilnius will become European Capital of Culture. These events, without doubt, will be of great importance in the documented history of Lithuania.

Hundreds of various cultural and historical events are planned for Vilnius in 2009. Visitors can get information about these events at http://www.mister-wong.com/user/Vilnius2009/. This website is a list of bookmarks that provide news and video clips, among other materials.

LINZ – European Capital of Culture 2009

Each year two cities are nominated as European Capitals of Culture: one city from among the older members of European Union and the second from among the newer members of the European Union. The cities that are nominated as European Capitals of Culture have a great opportunity to promote their culture throughout Europe. The second Capital of Culture in 2009 is the Austrian city of Linz.
