Worksheet: Krakow – Communism 1945-1956 - The summary of the German occupation

1. Using the Infotext and additional materials (dictionary, encyclopaedia), explain the meaning of the word Krakau.

2. In the text, numerous public buildings whose original purpose was changed are listed. Make a table with the buildings and their purpose before, during and after the war. In an additional column, describe what consequences, in a cultural sense, were caused by the Nazi occupation, and how they influenced Kraków and its citizens.

3. Describe the fate of the young fighters engaged in the conspiracy movement in Kraków. (source material 2 and 3)

4. What role do scout troops play today?

5. Are there any scout troops in your place of residence? Read their statutes and try to answer the question whether the values they uphold are universal, or if they may change with time.

6. After reviewing the source materials (Infotext, source material 1, 2 and 3), describe how the German occupation influenced Kraków. You may enumerate your answers, put them in a table, or as a balance sheet, etc.
